Add an SDS ingredient when the SDS's product contains an ingredient not currently shown on its Ingredients page. When adding the new ingredient, you enter its name, CAS number, amount in the product, and any additional note. After you save the new ingredient, you can enter user defined data and (at sites where the REACH module is licensed) ECHA registration and authorization numbers.
To add an SDS ingredient:
Starting at the SDS Ingredients page (How do I get there?), do the following:
1. Click the Add a new Ingredient to this SDS link.
2. Enter the new ingredient’s CAS Number and Ingredient Name. If you know only the CAS number, enter it and click Get Name; if a chemical record in your system—see Viewing and Working with Chemicals—has this CAS number, that chemical’s name is copied to the Ingredient Name field. You can also click the Ingredient Name field label to browse an index of CAS numbers and ingredients.
3. Select an Operator for the ingredient’s contribution amount within the product. Enter the amount in the High field (or, if the operator is Range, enter the range’s maximum amount in the High field and its minimum amount in the Low field). Choose the Unit of Measure that describes the contribution.
4. Click Save.
The new ingredient is saved. To enter any user-defined data, exposure limits, registration numbers, or authorization numbers for the new ingredient, see Editing an SDS Ingredient.
Note: If any of the new ingredient’s data is incomplete or inconsistent (such as an erroneous unit of measure), the ingredient is marked as not “Well-Formed”. Such errors should be corrected immediately.
