Create a part-specific conversion factor when a part requires a conversion factor that applies only to that product. If a conversion factor applies to all products, it is recommended that you create this as a universal conversion factor instead; for details, see Administration: Universal Conversion Factors.

After you create the new part-specific conversion factor, it is automatically used when appropriate for converting quantities of this product.

Note: In Comply Plus, each unit of measure has a "base/scientific type" that identifies the type of value it measures: Density, Mass, Volume, and so forth. Conversion factors are limited to converting between units of specific base/scientific types. When you create a conversion factor, remember that it can only covert values between:

        Two units of the same base/scientific type;

        An Ambiguous unit and a unit of any other base/scientific type;

        A Pressure unit and a Mass unit;

        A Pressure unit and a Volume unit.

Also Note: Using the procedure below, you can add a new part-specific conversion factor to a single part. To add conversion factors to multiple parts simultaneously, see Adding Conversion Factors to Parts in a Collection.

To create a part-specific conversion factor:

Starting at the Conversion Factors (Part-Specific) page (How do I get there?), do the following:

1.      Click the Create a new Part-specific Conversion Factor link at the bottom of the display.

2.      In the Converting From pick list, choose the unit of measure that your new conversion factor will convert into another.

3.      In the Converting To pick list, choose the unit into which your new conversion factor will convert the unit chosen in the Converting From pick list.

4.      In the Factor field, enter the number by which to multiply the Converting From unit in order to get the Converting To unit. (For example, a conversion factor that converts pounds into ounces would have lb in the Converting From pick list, oz in the Converting To pick list, and 16 in the Factor field; since a pound is 16 ounces, pounds are converted to ounces by multiplying the number of pounds by 16.)

5.      Click the Add button.
