Part Details

A part's details include its identification (part number, product name, manufacturer, and so on), its product category assignments, and other basic settings. The following is a complete list of the data items you can view (and, with the required permissions, edit) in a part's details.

        Part Number: The primary identifier of the part. Typically, this is an ID number or alphanumeric ID code. If two parts at the same site have different manufacturers, they may share the same part number.

Note: If the part’s site has a defined part number mask—a format for its part numbers—this mask is shown below the Part Number field label; A represents a letter and 0 (zero) represents a number. (Example: The mask “A000” suggests part numbers such as B481, M556, and similar.) Depending on Corporate site settings (for a Corporate part) or local site settings (for a site part), the part number may be:

        A changeable value of any format;

        A changeable value that must obey the part number mask;

        An unchangeable value auto-generated in accordance with the part number mask.

For details on these site settings, see Site Settings.

        Supplier Part: If this check box is selected, the part is a "supplier part"—a part acquired from an outside company. If this check box is clear, the part is manufactured by your own company.

        Part Type: This setting defines the part’s physical nature as one of the following:

        Undefined: A part of unknown nature.

        Substance: A chemical element and its compounds, either in its natural state or obtained through a chemical manufacturing process.

        Preparation: A mixture or solution of two or more substances.

        Article: An object whose shape, surface, or design determines its function to a greater degree than its chemical composition. For example: textiles, electronic chips, furniture, and so on.

        Complex Article: A combination of two or more articles, sometimes called an “assembly.”

        Product Name: The name of the product represented by the part number.

        Manufacturer: The company that manufactures the part.

        Description: A description that helps identify the nature or use of the part within your company.

        UN Number: A four-digit number that identifies a hazardous substance (example: sulfuric acid = 2796) or a group of substances with a common hazardous property (example: flammable liquids = 1993). These numbers are assigned by the United Nations to identify hazardous substances for international transport.

        Part Weight: The weight of a single standard unit of the part. The Part Weight UOM menu shows the weight’s unit of measure. When a part’s weight is entered here, the part is more easily defined as a sub-part (a component of another part) or as a composition of sub-parts; see Part Components for details.

        Primary UOM: The unit of measure most commonly used to measure the part’s quantity. If your site has the Chemical Inventory module licensed, this is the default unit for this part’s transactions and for the running balance on its transaction history.

        Categories: This area shows the product categories to which the part is assigned (and from which it is excluded). Corporate categories are shown in blue; local site categories are shown in black. If a category’s Excluded box is selected, the part is specifically excluded from that category. For more details on product categories, see Product Categories.

        Part Options: A part's details also include the following options for the part's behavior:

        Inactive: When this box is selected, the part is inactive. Inactive parts do not appear in search results or report outputs unless the user chooses to include them.

Note: A Corporate part can be set inactive only when it is un-assigned from all local sites. (See Part Sites for details.)

        Restrict UoMs (requires Chemical Inventory module): When this box is checked, the part is restricted to using only the units of measure selected on its Units of Measure page for its transactions. (This has the same effect as selecting the "Restricted" option on its Units of Measure page. See Part Units of Measure for details.)

        Restrict Transaction Types (requires Chemical Inventory module): When this box is checked, the part is restricted to using only the transaction types selected on its Transaction Types page for its transactions. (This has the same effect as selecting the "Restricted" option on its Transaction Types page. See Part Transaction Types for details.)
