Administration: Site Categories

Site categories provide numerous ways of grouping and organizing your corporation's sites. Each site can belong to one company and one division within that company (see Administration: Companies & Divisions), but this addresses the site's organizational position only. Site categories, in contrast, can group and categorize sites in any number of ways. You can define any number of site categories to fit a corporation's own models and practices; each site can be placed in any number of site categories, and each site category can include any number of sites.

The primary effect of site categories is simplifying site selection. Example: When running a report showing data for one or more sites (see Reports), you select which sites are included in the report's data. Instead of wading through a single long list of sites, you can select the desired site categories to quickly and easily focus on those sites. This makes site selection both more efficient and less prone to error.

To view the corporation's site categories and site-to-category assignments:

Starting at the Application Administration page (How do I get there?), do the following:

1.      In the menu on the left, under DATA, click Site Categories.

The administrative Site Categories page opens, showing current site categories and site-to-category assignments in the following lists:

Existing Categories: All current site categories in your system.

Sites Assigned to Categories: All current site-to-category assignments in your system.

2.      Optional: To alter the appearance of the Sites Assigned to Categories list, do one or both of the following:

To change the grouping of the list: Select the desired option in the menu below the list:

Group by Category: Show each site category with its assigned sites listed below the category name.

Group by Site: Show each site with its assigned site categories listed below the site name.

To include the site category assignments of inactive sites in the list: Select Show Inactive Sites in the lower left. Inactive site names are shown in the list in gray.

If you have permission to manage site categories, see the following topics for details:

Creating a Site Category: Create a new site category where one or more sites can be placed.

Editing a Site Category: Update a site category's name and/or description.

Deleting a Site Category: Permanently remove one or more site categories from your system.

Adding Sites to Site Categories: Add one or more sites to one or more site categories.

Removing Sites from Site Categories: Remove one or more sites from one or more site categories.
